Ebonyi ADC Factions Clash Over Presidential Primary Results

In a dramatic turn during the presidential primary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Ebonyi State, two factions announced conflicting winners. One faction declared Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi, former governor of Rivers State and ex-minister of transport, as the winner, while the other faction backed former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

The primary was conducted across 171 political wards, with a direct primary system that reportedly saw massive participation. According to official records, Amaechi received 6,050 votes, while Atiku secured 1,210 votes, and Muhammad Hayatudeen garnered 4,840 votes.

Out of 12,641 registered delegates, 12,100 were accredited, and all votes cast were deemed valid. Dr.

Jennif Adib Nwafor, the Ebonyi State chairman of the ADC, described the exercise as peaceful and transparent, emphasizing that no delegate was intimidated during the voting process. However, the announcement of Atiku as a winner by the rival faction has highlighted internal conflicts within the ADC ahead of the 2027 general elections.
