DSS Under Ajayi: A Proactive Approach to Security

The Department of State Services (DSS), under the leadership of Director General Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi, has been recognized as Nigeria's most proactive security agency. The DSS has shifted from its controversial past to a more public-facing role, particularly following the killing of Olaitan Oyerinde, a private secretary to Edo State Governor Adam Oshiomhole.

The agency has been involved in various investigations, including the arrest of five suspects linked to the November 2025 abduction of students and staff from St. Mary's Catholic School in Niger State. Ajayi's leadership has been praised by multiple organizations, including the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) and the International Press Institute (IPI), for promoting justice and human rights.

Recently, the DSS released Ya'u Mohammed Gashua, who was wrongfully detained, and provided him with 2 million Naira for reintegration into society. The agency's commitment to upholding the rule of law and strengthening public trust has been acknowledged, reflecting a significant transformation in its operations.
