DSS Reveals Arrest Details of Abuja Threat Suspect

On Friday, the Federal High Court in Abuja heard from Michael Jego, an operative of the Department of State Services (DSS), regarding the arrest of John Jude Agbo, who is accused of sending threatening messages to three elite schools in Abuja. The threats included intentions to kill students and teachers and to destroy school property.

Agbo was arraigned on March 17, facing two counts under the Terrorism Prevention Prohibition Act of 2022 and the Cybercrime Prohibition Act of 2024. The DSS received petitions about the threats on November 28, 2024, prompting an investigation that led to Agbo's arrest in Otukpo, Benue State, where his mobile phone was recovered.

During the trial, evidence was presented, including an audio-visual recording of Agbo's interview and his extra-judicial statement. The defense, represented by Hamza Dantani, acknowledged familiarity with the mobile phone but denied ownership.

The trial has been adjourned until May 12 for further proceedings.
