D’Tigress Triumphs Over Colombia 70-37 in World Cup Qualifiers

On March 11, 2023, D’Tigress, Nigeria's women's basketball team, achieved a commanding 70-37 victory over Colombia in their opening match of the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup qualifiers held in Villeurbanne, France. Under the guidance of head coach Rena Wakama, Nigeria established an early lead, finishing the first quarter at 18-12.

Despite Colombia's efforts to stay competitive, Nigeria maintained a 34-29 advantage at halftime. The African champions significantly widened the gap in the third quarter, ending it at 53-34 and sealing a comfortable 33-point win.

Nicol Enabosi delivered a strong performance with 11 rebounds, five assists, and 10 points, while Victoria Macaulay led the scoring with 13 points. Ifunanya Okoro contributed defensively with two steals.

The victory marked Wakama's 14th competitive win as coach, as Nigeria prepares for their next match against South Korea. D’Tigress has already secured a spot in the 2026 World Cup by winning the FIBA Women’s AfroBasket 2025 title.
