D’Tigress Coach Wakama Aims for Success in Qualifiers

Rena Wakama, the head coach of Nigeria's D’Tigress, pledged that the team will continue to make Nigerians proud as they prepare to face Colombia in the FIBA Women’s World Cup qualifiers in Lyon, France. The D’Tigress, seven-time African champions, are in a competitive pool alongside Colombia, Korea, the Philippines, host France, and Germany.

Wakama emphasized the importance of the tournament for testing the team's capabilities against strong competition and evaluating player commitment and discipline. She noted the roster's balance of experienced players and younger talent, which brings fresh energy and competitive tactics.

With high expectations from millions of Nigerians, Wakama stated that the players are ready to represent Nigeria passionately. The qualifiers are scheduled for March 11-17, 2026, with the main tournament taking place in Berlin, Germany, from September 4-13, 2026.
