D’Tigress Targets Stronger Performance for 2026 World Cup

D’Tigress, Nigeria's national women's basketball team, is focused on enhancing their performance for the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup, following a qualification campaign that resulted in two wins and three defeats. Despite the mixed results, Nigeria has secured a spot in the global tournament and will also participate in the 2025 Women’s AfroBasket.

Head coach Rena Wakama acknowledged the challenges faced during the qualification but believes the experience will benefit the team. She highlighted the importance of learning from past games and improving individual and team performance.

Guard Elizabeth Balogun stressed the need for the team to review their performances and build cohesion. Wakama pointed out the necessity for better starts and decision-making during critical moments in games.

The World Cup is scheduled to take place in Berlin from September 4 to 13, 2026, with the draw set for April 21, 2026. D’Tigress will also play a historic pre-tournament exhibition against the Minnesota Lynx, marking the first time an African national team will face a WNBA franchise.
