DUFUHS Commits to Tackling Visual Impairment - Free Eye Care Initiative

David Umahi Federal University of Health Sciences (DUFUHS) in Uburu has reaffirmed its commitment to addressing visual impairment and blindness affecting over 24 million Nigerians. The Vice-Chancellor, Jesse Uneke, highlighted the university's core mandate of research, training, and community development in combating these issues.

DUFUHS has implemented a Free Eye Care Initiative, providing treatment and distributing eyeglasses to patients at no cost. Supported by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), the initiative has significantly reduced avoidable blindness and offered training opportunities.

The university has treated hundreds of cases of refractive errors, cataracts, and glaucoma, contributing to the improvement of eye health in Nigeria.
