The Nigerian national football team, Super Eagles, encountered a safety issue mid-air as their charter aircraft, operated by ValueJet, suffered a cracked windshield en route from South Africa to Nigeria for a World Cup qualifier against Lesotho. The pilot skillfully diverted the plane back to Luanda, Angola, ensuring the passengers' safety.

The team, officials, and government delegates disembarked in Luanda and awaited further arrangements for their return to Nigeria. Despite the incident, the team successfully made it to Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, for the crucial match against Lesotho.
