Imo State First Lady Advocates Early Cancer Detection and Prevention

Chioma Uzodimma, the First Lady of Imo State, stressed the significance of early detection and prevention strategies in addressing the prevalence of cancer among women. She highlighted this message during a public health walk held in Owerri to commemorate World Cancer Day 2026, focusing on the theme of unity and uniqueness in the fight against cancer.

Uzodimma called for collective efforts to increase private sector investments in cancer care, urging for a stronger emphasis on promoting early detection and prevention measures. Adino Kennedy, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, echoed the sentiment that cancer is not a death sentence and is curable, especially when detected early.

He emphasized the need for community sensitization on the causes, diagnosis, and treatment of cancer.
