NCDC Issues Ebola Alert, Restricts Health Declaration Form

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has issued an interim public health advisory on September 22, 2026, placing Nigeria on high alert for Ebola Virus Disease (EVD). The NCDC has restricted the completion of Nigeria’s Health Declaration Form to travelers arriving from countries with active or relevant EVD transmission, while passengers from other countries are currently exempt.

This decision follows a dynamic risk assessment of the ongoing EVD outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and consultations with public health experts and the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare. The NCDC has urged the public to remain vigilant for symptoms consistent with EVD and to seek medical attention promptly if such symptoms occur.

Travelers are advised to disclose relevant travel or exposure history to health authorities when applicable. The NCDC's preparedness and response measures are ongoing in collaboration with various health and aviation authorities, including the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, Port Health Services, and the World Health Organisation.
