Niger State Health Ministry Activates Ebola Alert Measures

The Niger State Ministry of Health has placed its Public Health Emergency Operations Centre (PHEOC) on high alert due to a confirmed case of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja. Dr. Murtala Muhammad Bagana, the state Commissioner of Health, made this announcement in Minna.
He reassured the public that no cases of Ebola have been detected in Niger State and that the measures taken are precautionary, focusing on enhancing surveillance, early detection, and rapid response capabilities. Given the high transit and trade volume between Niger State and Abuja, Bagana highlighted the importance of vigilance.
The Ministry is collaborating with the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC), the World Health Organization (WHO), and other international partners. All health facilities in Niger State have been directed to report any suspected cases, and Local Government Disease Surveillance and Notification Officers (DSNOs) have been deployed for contact tracing and clinical assessment.
Infection Prevention and Control measures have been reinforced, and the public is urged to maintain hygiene practices and report any symptoms.
