NCDC Urges Increased State Funding for Ebola Prevention

The Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has called for increased funding from state governors across Nigeria to enhance Ebola prevention measures. Dr.

Jide Idri, the Director General of NCDC, made this appeal during the third edition of the Adetokunbo Alakija Memorial Lecture, which also inducted 52 new members into the Nigerian Society of Travel Medicine in Lagos on Thursday. Idri highlighted the importance of adequate funding for health workers and infrastructure to prevent the virus from entering the country.

He noted that measures are already in place, including strengthened monitoring at airports and contact tracing. The NCDC is collaborating with state governments to ensure that health workers receive the necessary support.

Dr. Patrick Chukwuma, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Nigerian Society of Travel Medicine, emphasized the role of travel medicine in preventing the spread of diseases like Ebola and COVID-19.

Oyo State's Commissioner for Health, Dr. Oluwaserimi Ajetunmobi, assured that the state is prepared to monitor and respond to any potential Ebola threats.
