NCDC Urges Governors to Enhance Ebola Prevention Funding

The Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has called on governors across Nigeria to enhance funding for Ebola prevention efforts, particularly in light of concerns regarding the Bundibugyo strain of the Ebola virus disease. Dr.

Jide Idri, the Director General of NCDC, made this appeal during the 3rd edition of the Adetokunbo Alakija Memorial Lecture, which was held in Victoria Island, Lagos. He stressed that while the federal government is implementing measures to prevent the spread of Ebola, state governments must also build capacity and provide necessary funding for health workers.

Idri highlighted existing measures, including strengthened monitoring and contact tracing at airports. He urged collaboration with airport officials to ensure effective prevention strategies are in place.

Dr. Patrick Chukwuma, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of NSTM, emphasized the importance of travel medicine in preventing the importation of diseases like Ebola.

The event also saw the induction of 52 new members into NSTM.
