Ogun State Government Enhances Ebola Surveillance Measures

The Ogun State Government has intensified its surveillance and preparedness measures in response to an Ebola case reported in the Federal Capital Territory. As of October 21, 2026, no cases have been recorded in Ogun State.
Dr Tomi Coker, the Commissioner for Health, stated that the state has been on heightened alert since the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo in March 2026. A total of 111 persons of interest, including passengers from high-risk countries, have been identified and monitored, with all discharged after completing the surveillance period.
The Public Health Emergency Operations Centre is coordinating response activities to ensure the prompt identification and management of any suspected cases. The government has trained Disease Surveillance and Notification Officers and health professionals on response procedures.
Coker urged residents to remain calm, observe preventive measures, and seek information from official health authorities. She provided details on Ebola symptoms and transmission, emphasizing the importance of hygiene and avoiding contact with potentially infected individuals.
