ECN Boss Denies Arrest by EFCC, Calls for Calm

Dr. Mustapha Abdullahi Deni, the Director-General of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (ECN), issued a statement on Wednesday in Abuja addressing reports of his alleged arrest by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). He clarified that he was not taken into custody but had voluntarily attended an invitation from the anti-graft agency.

Deni urged the public to refrain from speculation and misinformation that could distort facts and create unnecessary tension. He emphasized the importance of due process and the presumption of innocence until proven guilty in a competent court of law.

The statement also noted that the current allegations circulating in the public space are mere claims subject to investigation and legal procedures. Earlier reports indicated that sources alleged Deni was held by the EFCC, but attempts to comment from the EFCC's spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, were unsuccessful.

Anonymous sources within the EFCC indicated that the investigation involves funds estimated at N500 billion.
