ECN DG Deni Addresses Arrest Reports, Confirms Invitation

Dr. Mustapha Abdullahi Deni, the Director General of the Economic Commission of Nigeria (ECN), addressed media reports regarding his alleged arrest, stating that he honored an invitation from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

In a media statement signed by Alhaji Abdulrasaq Danjuma, his media aide, Deni emphasized the importance of due process and urged the public to refrain from speculation and misinformation that could distort facts and create unnecessary tension. He confirmed that he engaged voluntarily as a public servant committed to transparency and accountability.

Deni also highlighted that the matter remains under investigation and that every individual is entitled to the presumption of innocence until proven guilty in a court of law. Earlier reports suggested that the EFCC was investigating alleged fraud involving funds estimated at N500 billion, but the spokesperson for the EFCC, Dele Oyewale, did not comment on the situation at the time.
