Atiku Abubakar Rejects Tinubu's Economic Reforms Defense

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has publicly rejected the presidency's defense of President Bola Tinubu's economic performance, asserting that claims of economic recovery are inconsistent with the realities of increasing poverty and food insecurity in Nigeria. In a statement released on Monday by his media aide, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku emphasized that no official statistics could convince Nigerians of an improving economy while millions struggle to survive daily.

He pointed out that the Tinubu-led government celebrates macroeconomic gains without addressing the adverse effects of its policies on ordinary citizens. Citing the International Monetary Fund, Atiku noted that 63 percent of Nigerians live below the national poverty line, with approximately 27 million facing food insecurity.

He criticized the administration's defense of its borrowing program and questioned the benefits of fuel subsidy removal, stating that while reforms are acknowledged, the promised improvements in public services remain unseen.
