ECOWAS and EAC Collaborate for Pan-African Parliamentary Network

The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Parliament, under the leadership of Speaker Hon. Hadja Memounatou Ibrahima, is initiating a project to enhance legislative cooperation between West and East Africa. This initiative was introduced during a three-day working visit to the East African Community (EAC) headquarters in Arusha, Tanzania, where Ibrahima was hosted by Rt.

Hon. Joseph Ntakirutimana, Speaker of the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA), and Mr. Alex Obatre, Clerk of the Assembly. The discussions focused on a joint Concept Note proposing the creation of a Network of Regional and Supranational Parliamentary Institutions.

This network aims to facilitate the sharing of experiences and coordinated responses to transnational issues affecting African nations, such as migration, climate change, and economic integration. The initiative seeks to strengthen Africa’s collective voice in international affairs and promote cooperation among regional legislative bodies, including the EALA, ECOWAS Parliament, and the Pan-African Parliament (PAP).
