ECOWAS Engages Stakeholders to Boost Cross-Border Trade

The ECOWAS Commission conducted a High-Level Dialogue and Sensitisation at the Noépé-Akanu Joint Border Post between Togo and Ghana, engaging border officials, cross-border traders, transporters, and stakeholders, including women and youth from Benin Republic, Ghana, and Togo. The event aimed to strengthen the implementation of regional integration instruments along the Abidjan-Lagos Corridor.

Key discussions involved ECOWAS initiatives such as the ECOWAS National Biometric Identity Card, the SIGMAT customs system, and measures to facilitate border crossings and intra-regional trade. Torgbi Harvey of Noépé emphasized the need for joint facilitation measures among ECOWAS Member States.

Captain Agniba Essoiezam highlighted the importance of understanding ECOWAS instruments for free movement. ECOWAS Commissioner Dr Kalilou Sylla reaffirmed the commitment to enhancing regional integration and called for the elimination of delays and harassment at borders.

Mr Dermane Tajudini, representing the Togolese Minister of Transport, reiterated Togo’s commitment to efficient movement of people and goods.
