ECOWAS and Tunisia Strengthen Cooperation in Abuja Meeting

The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and the Republic of Tunisia reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening relations during a meeting at the ECOWAS headquarters in Abuja, Nigeria. President General Birame Diop welcomed Ambassador Mohsen Antit, who expressed Tunisia's readiness to enhance engagement with ECOWAS.

The discussions focused on opportunities for cooperation in digitalization, technological innovation, and knowledge-based economies, emphasizing the potential for improved public services and economic competitiveness. Both parties acknowledged pressing regional challenges, including youth migration, human trafficking, and drug trafficking, particularly concerning Tunisia's role as a transit route to Europe.

They stressed the need for stronger cooperation and information-sharing to address these issues effectively. Security collaboration was also a key topic, with both sides expressing interest in sharing experiences to support peace and stability.

The meeting highlighted the importance of infrastructure development and partnerships promoting inclusive economic growth, environmental sustainability, and improved livelihoods across the region.
