Edo Governor Okpebholo Launches Major Health Reforms

Edo State Governor Mondai Okpebholo has launched extensive reforms in the health sector, focusing on revitalizing healthcare facilities and improving workforce conditions. The Edo State Hospital Management Agency, led by Chief Dr.

Nelson Teneb, disclosed that the administration has successfully reopened several hospitals that had been closed for years, including Anegbett General Hospital, which was shut for 19 years, and Obayantor General Hospital, closed for 22 years. The governor's initiative includes the recruitment of 1,376 clinical and non-clinical staff and measures to enhance worker welfare, such as approved staff promotions.

The agency has also procured modern medical equipment for 36 secondary healthcare facilities. Additionally, the central hospital annex in Benin City is set to provide 24-hour services, including an accident and emergency unit.

Plans are underway to establish an eye care center at the Uromi General Hospital and to ensure a sustainable drug supply program for patients.
