Edo Police Arrest Man for Spreading False Kidnap Alarm

The Edo State Police Command arrested a suspect responsible for circulating false information regarding alleged kidnappings of schoolchildren in Edo State, specifically in areas including Afuz, Ehor, Otuo, and Igueben. The misinformation led to widespread panic, prompting parents and guardians to rush to schools to pick up their children, causing chaos as businesses closed early.

Eno Ikoedem, the spokesperson for the police, described the reports as misleading and capable of causing unnecessary panic among residents. The police confirmed that there were no incidents of schoolchildren being kidnapped in the mentioned areas and advised parents and guardians to allow students to attend school without fear, assuring them that adequate security measures were in place.

The police warned individuals against spreading false information that could threaten public peace and undermine security operations, stating that those found guilty would be investigated and prosecuted according to the law.
