Education Stakeholders Advocate AI Training at HERPNET

At the 18th annual and regional conference of the Higher Education Research and Policy Network (HERPNET) held at Lagos State University (LASU), education stakeholders advocated for systematic training in Artificial Intelligence (AI) for both lecturers and students. The conference, themed "Innovating higher education with AI: Teaching, research and policy perspectives," resulted in a communiqué signed by Professor S.O.

Adedeji, Professor A.O.U Onuka, and Dr. E. Okeke.

The experts stressed the importance of networking between academia and industry and contextualizing AI development to suit Nigeria's cultural realities. They noted that while AI is beneficial for research and learning, it is often misused and not tailored to local contexts.

Professor Babatunde Babalola acknowledged the challenges associated with AI but emphasized its usefulness. Keynote speaker Professor Oluwatoyin Enikuomehin, represented by Professor Olugbenga Akindoju, and lead paper presenter Professor Francis Egbokhare, highlighted that the challenges of AI in education are manageable.

The conference concluded with appreciation for Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello and other stakeholders for facilitating the event.
