Nigerian-American Faces Court Over $320,000 Fraud Case
Oluwatobi Adegoke, a Nigerian-American, was arraigned by the Ilorin Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) before Justice Olubunmi Abike-Fadipe of the Special Offences Court in Lagos State on a one-count charge of stealing. His legal troubles began in July 2026 when he was arrested for an alleged cross-border vehicle import fraud exceeding $320,000, approximately N434.88 million.
Investigations indicated that Adegoke was part of a syndicate based in the United States that defrauded Nigerians under the pretense of purchasing and importing vehicles. He allegedly advertised a 2024 Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG to potential buyers in Nigeria, claiming he could facilitate the purchase and shipment.
Two victims reportedly paid over $320,000 for this transaction. Adegoke pleaded not guilty to the charge, which involved dishonestly converting $680,000 from Ikechukwu Osita Ifeabunike for a 2022 G Wagon purchase.
Following his plea, the EFCC counsel requested a trial date and Adegoke was remanded at Kirikiri Correctional Centre, with the case adjourned until January 13, 2027.
