NGX Market Wrap 9 Oct 2026 | Plus234Feed

The Nigerian Exchange closed marginally lower on Friday, with the All-Share Index declining 0.25% to 248,381.76 points despite healthy trading activity. While losses narrowly outweighed gains, strong performance in select equities and robust market turnover suggest underlying resilience.
The NGX finished Friday's session in modest negative territory as the All-Share Index shed 0.25% to close at 248,381.76 points. However, the muted decline masks a balanced market where selective strength in specific stocks offset broader weakness.
Trading activity remained solid, with 35,932 deals exchanged and 293.6 million shares changing hands, generating ₦18.6 billion in value. This liquidity suggests sustained investor participation despite the directional headwind.
The gainers list was anchored by LIVESTOCK, which surged 9.58% to ₦13.15 following a ₦1.15 jump, leading a cohort of strong performers. CAP gained ₦8.50 to ₦108.50 (+8.50%), while UPDC, GUINEAINS, and REGALINS each posted gains exceeding 7%, indicating selective appetite in the equities space.
Conversely, losses were steeper in magnitude but narrower in breadth. REDSTAREX declined 9.76% (₦1.45) to ₦13.40, while AVACAP shed 9.48% (₦0.55) to ₦5.25. LEGENDINT, DAARCOMM, and WAPIC also registered declines ranging from 7.26% to 8.22%.
Market heavyweights dominated trading volume: ZENITHBANK led with 29.8 million shares, trailed by GTCO (20.1 million) and ACCESSCORP (18.8 million), demonstrating that large-cap liquidity remained robust despite the index's slight pullback. Market capitalisation stood at ₦161.3 trillion.
Investors should monitor whether tomorrow's session sustains consolidation or tests support levels, particularly given Friday's marginal decline.
