EFCC Arrests 10 Illegal Miners in Kwara State for Unlawful Mining Activities

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Kwara State arrested 10 suspects involved in illegal mining activities in the Ilorin-Ogbomosho area, spanning Kwara and Oyo states. The arrests were made on February 1, 2026, as part of a coordinated sting operation based on credible intelligence.

The suspects, including nine truck drivers, were intercepted while allegedly transporting unlawfully mined solid minerals. The EFCC disclosed that the seized materials included lithium, tin, lepidolite, and other minerals.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects lacked the necessary licenses and permits for mining and transporting the minerals. The suspects are currently in custody, and the EFCC plans to arraign them in court after concluding its investigations.
