EFCC Discovers Illegal Chinese Oil Refinery in Ogun

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) discovered an illegal oil refinery allegedly operated by Chinese nationals in the Ogere area of Ogun State on October 31, 2026. This operation was conducted by the Lagos Zonal Directorate 2 of the EFCC following credible intelligence and surveillance regarding illegal sludge oil refiners.
Upon arrival, the EFCC operatives found the facility deserted but uncovered waste products from the refining process and underground tanks believed to have been used for heating and processing sludge oil. Two of these tanks contained substances suspected to be Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), commonly known as diesel.
Preliminary investigations indicated that the operators sourced sludge oil from Warri, Delta State, and Port Harcourt, Rivers State, transporting it to the illegal facility for processing. Personnel at the site did not disclose their identities or the name of the company behind the operation.
The EFCC has taken over the premises as investigations continue to determine the identities of the operators and the extent of the illegal activities.
