EFCC Arrests 31 in Abuja Yahoo Academy Bust

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) conducted a sting operation in Abuja, resulting in the arrest of 31 suspects linked to an internet fraud academy located in Becki Estate, Karu, Federal Capital Territory. According to a press statement from EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale, the operation took place on a Thursday, where the suspects included two kingpins who were allegedly providing tutoring in internet fraud.

The EFCC recovered several items during the operation, including 18 laptops and mobile phones. Investigations revealed that the academy's proprietor was luring individuals from Benue State with promises of job offers upon settling down at the facility.

The academy enforced strict movement restrictions on its recruits, effectively isolating them from the outside world. Furthermore, reports indicated that physical assaults were used as a form of punishment within the academy.

The suspects are expected to face charges in court as investigations continue.
