EFCC Warns of Fake Officers Targeting Youth and Motorists

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) issued a warning on Tuesday regarding the rise of fake officers impersonating its agents to target youth and motorists across major cities. In a statement released by Dele Oyewale, the commission's Head of Media and Publicity, it was revealed that these fraudsters employ deceptive tactics, including dressing in fake EFCC uniforms and using fictitious identification to ambush unsuspecting individuals at popular eateries and fun spots.

They falsely accuse victims of internet fraud and extort money from them, often using weapons and harassment tactics. The EFCC also flagged online impersonation incidents where content creators have staged fake EFCC raids to mislead the public.

The commission urged the public to be cautious and to evaluate claims made by individuals purporting to be EFCC officers, reinforcing that the EFCC has established procedures for addressing grievances.
