EFCC Re-arraigns Lawyer for N15.7 Million Fraud

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has re-arraigned lawyer Benjamin Chukwuemeka Nwobodo at the Federal High Court in Enugu on charges related to alleged land fraud amounting to N15.7 million. The re-arraignment occurred on January 27, 2025, where Nwobodo faced a total of 20 counts, including forgery and possession of false documents.

He initially pleaded not guilty, and the court granted him bail based on self-recognition. The prosecution, led by Chief Superintendent Chikezi Raymond Edozi, presented six witnesses and several exhibits during the trial.

The case was adjourned to April 30, 2026, for the defense to open its case. The charges include an incident on January 15, 2014, where Nwobodo allegedly attempted to defraud individuals by presenting a forged land purchase receipt for N9 million.

Another charge from April 25, 2014, involves a similar attempt to defraud for N5.5 million. The court has warned Nwobodo against interfering with the prosecution.
