EFCC Re-arraigns Lawyer Nwobodo for N15.7m Fraud

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has re-arraigned lawyer Benjamin Chukwuemeka Nwobodo on charges of land fraud amounting to N15.7 million. The proceedings took place before Justice F.O.

Giwa Ogunbanjo at the Federal High Court in Enugu. Nwobodo was initially arraigned on January 27, 2025, facing five counts of forgery and possession of false documents.

He pleaded not guilty, and the court granted him bail based on self-recognition. The prosecution, led by Chief Superintendent Chikezi Raymond Edozi, presented six witnesses and several exhibits during the trial.

The case was adjourned to April 30, 2026, after the prosecution closed its case. Nwobodo is accused of attempting to defraud individuals by presenting forged land purchase receipts on two occasions in January and April 2014, which contravenes the Miscellaneous Offences Act of Nigeria.

The court has warned Nwobodo against interfering with the prosecution through harassment or intimidation.
