EFCC Recovers N83.59bn, $98.07m from Oil Companies

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has recovered about N83.59 billion and $98.07 million in outstanding statutory levies owed to the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) by oil companies. Francis Usani, Special Adviser to the EFCC on Regulatory Compliance, revealed these recoveries while addressing the Senate Committee on Public Accounts on Wednesday, chaired by Senator Ibrahim Dankwambo.

The committee is investigating findings from the Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative’s (NEITI) 2021–2023 oil and gas industry audit report, focusing on the failure of companies in the extractive sector to remit statutory payments. The NEITI audit identified outstanding three percent NDDC levies totaling N90.046 billion and $229.534 million for 2015-2020.

The EFCC invited 43 oil companies for questioning, finding 24 with outstanding liabilities. The EFCC directly recovered N76.884 billion and $81.077 million, which were deposited into its recovery account at the Central Bank of Nigeria.

As of July 31, 2026, the EFCC had remitted N73.373 billion and $67.071 million to the NDDC, with a remaining balance of N3.510 billion and $14.006 million in its recovery account.
