EFCC Sounds Alarm Over Political Attacks Ahead of 2027 Elections

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has raised concerns about political attacks ahead of the 2027 elections in Nigeria. The agency accuses opposition politicians of orchestrating campaigns of calumny against it, with vested interests in suspect investigations.

Dele Oyewale, a spokesman for the EFCC, revealed that the agency is facing prosecution plots aimed at bringing it down. Ola Olukoyede, the EFCC chairman, has been targeted with phantom allegations of political bias.

The EFCC suspects the involvement of politicians, academics, so-called civil society activists, Nigerian fugitives, and paid jobbers in sponsoring media attacks against the agency.
