EFCC Responds to Loan Request from Nigerian Chef Dan

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) responded to a request from a Nigerian man named Chef Dan, who sought to borrow N400,000 from funds recovered from fraudsters. Chef Dan reached out via the EFCC's official X account, expressing his financial struggles and proposing a repayment plan of N15,000 monthly for two years.

In its reply, the EFCC humorously clarified that despite having "Financial" in its name, its core mandate is to investigate and prosecute economic and financial crimes, not to lend money or provide financial assistance to individuals. The agency stated that recovered funds are typically returned to government coffers or used according to court orders, rather than being distributed to the public.

The EFCC's response also directed Chef Dan and others in similar situations to formal banking institutions for personal loan applications, reflecting the broader frustrations of Nigerians facing rising living costs and limited access to affordable credit.
