EFCC Arrests 31 in Abuja Yahoo Academy Sting Operation

On April 9, 2026, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) conducted a sting operation in Karu, Abuja, uncovering an alleged internet fraud training center commonly referred to as a Yahoo academy. The operation led to the arrest of 31 suspects, including two key operators and several trainees.

During the raid, the EFCC recovered multiple mobile phones, 18 laptops, and various digital devices believed to be used for fraudulent activities. The investigation revealed that recruits were allegedly lured from Benue State with promises of legitimate job opportunities, only to be introduced to internet fraud upon arrival.

The suspects were reportedly confined within the facility with restricted movement, and their communication devices were confiscated to cut off outside contact. The EFCC disclosed that strict control measures were enforced within the center, including alleged physical punishments for non-compliance with instructions.

The suspects remain in custody and will face charges in court upon the conclusion of the ongoing investigation.
