Local Government Leads Recovery Efforts After NAF Crash

Efforts are underway to recover bodies from the crash site of a Nigeria Air Force (NAF) aircraft marked NAF-931, which went down on a routine mission from Benin to Lagos on Monday. The crash occurred at approximately 11:00 am in a swampy area near the Nigerian Navy Base in Igbokoda, Ondo State, with 25 passengers on board.
Maurice Oripenaiye, the Chairman of Ilaje Local Government Area, reported that a search and recovery team, including the Army, Navy, Police, Red Cross, National Emergency Management Authority (NEMA), State Emergency Management Agency, and local divers, has been established. He noted that arrangements are being made for heavy equipment from HiTech Construction Company to clear the waterways for better access to the crash site.
As of now, no bodies have been recovered, but efforts are ongoing, with Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa directing emergency agencies to assist in the recovery operation. Oripenaiye expressed sympathy for the NAF and the victims' families, calling the incident unfortunate.
