Aiyedatiwa Leads Recovery Efforts After Ondo Aircraft Crash

Aiyedatiwa, the governor, stated that recovery efforts for victims of a military aircraft crash in Ondo are ongoing. The aircraft, carrying 25 people, was on a special mission from Benin to Lagos when it crashed around 11:00 a.m. on Monday.

Aiyedatiwa described the crash scene as a "very gory sight," with parts of bodies, clothing belonging to Air Force personnel, and broken aircraft parts recovered. He directed the Ministry of Works to deploy two amphibious machines to improve access to the crash site, which is difficult to reach.

The main body of the aircraft has not yet been located, and recovery teams are using larger boats to excavate the soil in search of it. Navy personnel and local divers are searching deeper areas for possible bodies and the cockpit.

Aiyedatiwa noted that jet fuel was leaking into the water, causing pollution, and expressed relief that the crash did not occur within a community, which could have led to a major catastrophe.
