Sowore Claims Egbetokun's Resignation Indicates Illegality

Omoyele Sowore, a human rights activist and former presidential candidate, stated that the resignation of Kayode Egbetokun from the position of Inspector General of Police (IGP) demonstrates that his tenure was never legally valid. Sowore made these claims during an appearance on a television channel on Wednesday morning.

He accused the former IGP of using force against police officers and demanded improvements in their welfare. Sowore further alleged that during his visit to the police headquarters, he interacted with officers who expressed concerns about internal issues within the police force.

He criticized Egbetokun's leadership for failing to address insecurity and professionalism within the police. Additionally, Sowore claimed that extending the tenure of the police chief beyond the retirement age without clear legal backing is inappropriate.

He also alleged that Egbetokun promoted undeserving officers while sidelining others, leading to the removal of 74,000 officers and the promotion of 500 senior officers.
