Egypt Bans 8 Items for Import and Export by Foreigners

Egypt's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a list of eight categories of items that are strictly prohibited for both import and export by foreigners entering or leaving the country. The banned items include: 1) drugs that require a prescription and cannot be obtained over the counter, 2) real and toy arms, ammunition, and explosives, 3) all kinds of artefacts, 4) all kinds of narcotics, 5) subsidized commodities, except those intended strictly for personal use, 6) wildlife in all its forms, 7) coral reefs, and 8) mango seeds, all fruit saplings, cotton, and general seeds.

These restrictions aim to protect public safety, national heritage, and the environment. The prohibition on artefacts is part of efforts to safeguard Egypt's cultural and historical heritage from illegal export.

The ban on coral reefs and wildlife reflects the country's commitment to preserving its natural ecosystems, particularly along the Red Sea coast. Additionally, the inclusion of agricultural materials addresses biosecurity concerns related to the introduction of pests or diseases that could threaten local crops.
