Sevilla Appoints Luis García Plaza as New Coach

Sevilla has appointed Luis García Plaza as their new head coach, confirming the decision on Tuesday, less than 24 hours after the departure of Almeyda. Plaza, 53, has signed a contract that extends until 2027.

His arrival comes as Sevilla struggles near the bottom of La Liga, currently sitting just above the relegation zone with only three points separating them from the bottom three. Almeyda oversaw 32 competitive matches but was dismissed following a 2-0 defeat to Valencia, which deepened concerns about the club's performance.

Plaza, who has built a solid reputation in Spanish football, previously managed teams such as Levante, Getafe, and Villarreal, and most recently guided Deportivo Alavés to ensure their survival in La Liga before departing in December 2024. Sevilla hopes that Plaza's experience will help stabilize results and restore calm during this turbulent campaign.
