SDP Candidate Peter Obafemi Advocates Issue-Based Campaigns

Peter Obafemi, the governorship candidate for the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Ekiti State, has urged political parties to focus on issue-based campaigns as the state prepares for the governorship election scheduled for June 20, 2026. In a statement issued on Sunday, Obafemi expressed concerns regarding rising unemployment, poverty, food insecurity, and infrastructure deficits affecting residents.

He engaged with various community leaders, including farmers, traders, civil servants, students, and artisans, to discuss solutions to these pressing economic and social challenges. Obafemi identified youth unemployment and the migration of skilled professionals as major issues, noting that despite Ekiti's high educational output, there is a lack of sufficient industrial growth and employment opportunities.

He stressed the importance of investing in economic development, encouraging entrepreneurship, and enhancing agricultural practices to improve food security and create jobs. Additionally, he called for renewed investment in healthcare and education to strengthen the state's reputation as a center of knowledge.
