Ekiti State Enhances Ebola Preparedness Training for Health Workers

The Ekiti State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to public health preparedness, particularly concerning the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD). State Epidemiologist Bosede Alowooye stated that despite no reported cases of Ebola in Ekiti, the government has strengthened its readiness due to recent outbreaks in Africa and increased cross-border movements.

During a two-day refresher training and simulation exercise for health personnel at the Federal Teaching Hospital in Ido Ekiti, Alowooye emphasized the importance of early detection, isolation, and management of suspected EVD cases. The training included classroom lectures and practical simulations, covering EVD epidemiology, case definitions, infection prevention, and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

Alowooye assured residents of the state's vigilance and readiness to respond to any health threats. Facilitator Olumuyiwa Ariyo noted the participants' commitment and competence, recommending regular training and adequate stockpiling of PPE and infection control materials.
