Allegations of Vote Buying Mar Ekiti Governorship Election

During the Ekiti State governorship election, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) won its first polling unit at Ajagbala Hall, scoring 39 votes against the All Progressives Congress (APC) with 29 votes, and the People's Democratic Party (PDP) with 17 votes. ADC candidate Dare Bejid reported incidents of vote buying, alleging that APC agents offered voters cash inducements, with amounts reported as high as N10,000 from APC and N2,000 from ADC.

Voters in Aramoko admitted to receiving money in exchange for votes, despite the presence of electoral officials and security personnel. Bejid condemned the actions as violations of democratic values and reported an assault on a driver during the election process.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) monitored polling units but made no arrests. APC leaders, including Makind Araoy, dismissed the allegations and claimed the election was conducted peacefully, while INEC's technological improvements reportedly reduced voter accreditation time.
