Ekweremadu's Wife Returns to Nigeria After UK Prison Release

Beatrice Ekweremadu, wife of former Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu, has returned to Nigeria after being released from a UK prison where she served nearly two years for her involvement in an organ trafficking conspiracy. In 2022, Ike Ekweremadu was convicted and received a nine-year, eight-month prison sentence, while Beatrice was sentenced to four years and six months for facilitating the travel of a 21-year-old street trader from Nigeria to the UK with the intent to harvest kidneys.

Their daughter, Sonia, who suffers from chronic kidney disease, was not charged. Another individual, Obinna Obeta, described as a medical middleman, is currently serving a 10-year prison sentence in the UK.

Sonia's case is ongoing, and she has not been charged with any crimes. Beatrice's return to Nigeria follows the conclusion of her legal process in the UK.
