El-Rufai to Face EFCC on February 16, 2026, Amid Arrest Attempt

Malam Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State, is set to appear before the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) at 10:00 AM on Monday, February 16, 2026. This development follows an alleged attempt to arrest him at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja on Thursday, shortly after his arrival from Cairo, Egypt, aboard Egypt Air flight MS 877.

His lawyer, Ubong Esop Akpan, disclosed that the EFCC had invited El-Rufai to their office. He had been abroad for medical treatment since December 2025.

El-Rufai's legal team has communicated with the anti-graft agency, assuring them that he is willing to comply with their requests upon his return.
