El-Rufai in EFCC Custody Over Financial Allegations

Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai is set to spend the night in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) after voluntarily presenting himself at their headquarters on Monday, responding to an invitation from the anti-graft agency. Sources indicate that El-Rufai, a member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), is being questioned about allegations of financial improprieties during his time in office.

The investigation is expected to continue, with further interrogations planned for Tuesday, contingent on the progress of the inquiry. Additionally, the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) is anticipated to conduct its own questioning on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the Kaduna State House of Assembly reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and accountability, as hundreds of citizens protested, led by Ambassador Yerima Shettima and other northern stakeholders. They submitted a formal letter to Speaker Hon.

Yusuf Dahiru Liman, demanding updates on legislative investigations into the alleged misappropriation of N432 billion, with a committee already established to report by June 2024.
