Court Dismisses Joel Adoga's Rights Violation Claims

The Federal High Court in Kaduna ruled that there were no violations of rights against Joel Adoga, who is standing trial alongside former Kaduna State Governor Mallam Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai. Adoga had filed a suit alleging infringement of fundamental rights, claiming he was denied access to family and legal representation and was coerced into making statements during an investigation by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).

The court, presided over by Justice M.S. Idri, found no merit in Adoga's claims and dismissed the suit in its entirety.

The ICPC had maintained that Adoga was lawfully invited for questioning based on suspicions of involvement in corrupt practices related to various funds of the Kaduna State government. Adoga faces ten counts of criminal charges, including allegations of financial misconduct involving significant sums deposited in accounts linked to him and El-Rufai.

The court affirmed that the ICPC acted within the law during its investigation.
