Tinubu's Commitment to Electoral Act Amid Protests

The Nigerian presidency, through special adviser Dare, affirmed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's commitment to making decisions that align with the nation's best interests regarding the Electoral Act Amendment Bill. This bill, recently approved by the Senate, authorizes the electronic transmission of election results from polling units via the Independent National Electoral Commission's results viewing portal (IREV).

However, it also allows for manual transmission in cases of network communication failure. The approval followed protests from civil society organizations advocating for mandatory real-time electronic transmission without exceptions.

During an interview, Dare emphasized that Tinubu's decisions reflect practical considerations, including existing infrastructure limitations and the feasibility of full real-time electronic transmission, acknowledging that no country operates a completely flawless electronic electoral system.
