Coalition of CSOs Warns of Potential Compromise in 2027 Nigerian Elections

A coalition of CSOs, including the Albino Foundation and Yiaga Africa, has raised concerns over potential electoral compromise in the 2027 Nigerian elections. The Senate's rejection of a bill mandating real-time electronic transmission of election results has sparked protests led by figures like Peter Obi.

Notable voices like Olisa Agbakoba have supported the call for electoral reforms to ensure credible elections. Jake Epel, speaking on behalf of the CSOs, criticized the Senate's removal of a proposed 10-year ban on offenses related to voter cards, citing legal uncertainties.

The CSOs urge the National Assembly to adopt the House of Representatives' version of the Electoral Act amendment bill to ensure transparent and credible elections in 2027.
