Okechukwu Urges Opposition to Support Nigeria's Democracy

Osita Okechukwu, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), warned the opposition against actions that could undermine Nigeria's democracy, particularly through scaremongering tactics. Speaking to journalists in Enugu, he urged the opposition to refrain from making statements that could discourage voter participation and damage democratic institutions.

Okechukwu highlighted that democracy could become a casualty if political actors resort to negative narratives that dampen citizens' confidence in the electoral process. He criticized the opposition for engaging in blame games and alarmist rhetoric, instead advocating for a focus on mobilizing support for the APC and adhering to democratic principles.

Okechukwu also addressed the proposed Electoral Act 2026, noting its potential to improve the electoral process by mandating electronic transmission of results, contrasting it with the current Electoral Act 2022. He emphasized that democracy evolves through patience and commitment to integrity, dismissing allegations of anti-democratic actions within the PDP leadership.
